I’D RATHER GO NAKED & FAMOUS THAN WEAR FUR – Every Saturday – HARRODS PROTEST AT LONDON’S EXCLUSIVE KNIGHTS BRIDGE RETAIL ESTABLISHMENT.

Despite FUR farming being illegal in Britain, sales figures here in the UK are sky rocketing through the roof in the last 5 years. Cruel or Cool ? Are we such a nation of self-obsessed wannabees that the ”what” in what we wear is no longer important ?

There has been a History of Anti Fur Protest activity against Harrods from a number of Animal Rights Groups and Organizations. Most recently form 2005 to 2013 Anti Fur protesting at the Elite Store was being driven by Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade. In 2013 despite widespread public unrest, Harrods succeed in securing a court Injunction to effectively silence protest. The Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade is now targeting Harvey Nichols and FUR Retail.

In November 2014 Heidi Mary Porter, committed animal rights activist nudity protester and model, under her deep probing animal rights investigation operation “FBI animals” took up the banner against Harrods policy of stocking Real Fur and started protesting over Fur . Heidi and a growing movement of protesters can be seen outside Harrods Every Saturday  from 2 – 6.

The objective of the protest is to ask HARRODS to review their commitment to stocking FUR products. The protest group have raised concerns specifically around the increasingly cruel cost cutting methods of farming FUR which have been linked by Animal Rights groups to industry practices of skinning alive, anal electrocution, horrific conditions of confinement in cramp quarters filled with excrement , beating, suffocation, gas, and poisoning.

Harrods argument to stocking Fur is based on what is referred to “Ethical Sourcing” and “Public demand”.

Fishinabox, the Anti Fur society, Nettverk for dyrs frihet and Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge have all investigated lines of supply  for European stockists back to “Ethical” Farms and found evidence of gross negligence. In all cases , All fur farms investigated contained the same conditions. Animals keep in dire confinement have resorted to gnawing their own limbs, attacking each other, neglected, eating excrement when not feed, death and disease is unchecked and carcasses are left with living animals:

It is essential that these investigations are made and shared as publicly as possible. As with failing demand and outrage leading up to the 1990 closure of the Harrods Fur Department,, the strength of the anti-fur campaign was based on concrete evidence of mistreatment.

Why Harrods ? Perhaps the protest group believe that by gaining the support of one one the oldest and most respected stores in London the message will filter down to the retail sector in general over the archaic practice of selling FUR.

Harrods , (according to “wikipedia” is an upmarket department store located on the Brompton Road in Knightsbridge, in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London. The Harrods motto is Omnia Omnibus Ubique—All Things for All People, Everywhere has proven to be a poison pill when faced with the controversy of FUR. 

Harrods is the only department store in Britain that has continued to sell FUR. (That’s DEPARTMENT Store, not, retail chain – retail is rolling out FUR without limitation) Their elitist example of the “acceptability” of fur and the “class tag” of Harrods goods creates an acceptance in high society of the allure to FUR products which is challenged in this protest. 

  

LAST MONTH: MARCH

The protesters were served by Harrods with, under UK Law, an “all guns blazing” updated 16 page restriction order from the Royal Court of Justice (dated 2013) and have been under pressure from the Store security attempting to impose the conditions of the order.  (The order has, by fault of the Harrods Legal team, not been updated for the current campaign and though it falls under the “expectation”  in section 2 against “Persons Unknown” actually omits the word “unknown”  which could be grounds of contention by FBI Animals , in the event of the being applied for arrest or detention against non CAFT members.

Fashion industry  – Hang your heads in Shame:

Newly shamed in the Fashion Elite for selling “FAUXFUR” but proved to be cat / rabbit / racoon / dog: Aquatalia /Belk/Michael Kors/Jacadi, and Nordstrom Rack

In the 1980’s  public rejected FUR en mass following a series of campaigns highlighting the techniques used in the processing of Seal Cubs for FUR. It is ironic that this method of processing FUR , so vehemently protested against is more humane than most of the global fur trade farming today. At least the seals were dead ! The Public had an issue with that but don’t have an issue with whats going on today ? it seems unbelievable….

Back to London for some research: Why is it when you sit on your underground train around London, that so many women are happy to sit in full fur coats made from fox, rabbit, cat, dog imported furs, All evidence clearly shows the animals are treated inhumanly ?……

We took the matter to test, and, over the period of a week FISHINABOX asked 100 women between Highbury Islington and Stratford Station London if they were aware that their Fur coat or trim was real or not and if real, most likely subjected to methods of torture in its production.

Results: 28 of the women responded aggressively (verbally violent) or passively aggressively (ignored) and declined to answer. Of the remaining 72; 20 responded that they were fully aware;  52 said there trims / coats were most likely fake and were informed about the cases of the Tom Tailor use of cat fur and Canada Goose use of Coyote fur.

When advised that the cost of fake fur (therefore the likelihood that fake fur is actually Cat/Dog Fur) now exceeds the cost of cat/dog FUR, and, that the US FUR market who supplies the globalized west, currently has 60% of all FUR imports coming from China. where the FUR industry is a staple of  Cat/Dog and Rabbit Fur.All women of the remaining 52 questioned were unaware and shocked.

All women were then asked if they owned cats themselves of the 20 Women who were fully aware, 7 owned Cats, of the 52 women questioned 23 owned Cats.

At FISHINABOX we make the sweepingly judgement decision that Women who knowingly and happily wear FUR farmed on an industry of torture are basically just bitches and as a result we reached out to Heidi to support her in her work. As part of this campaign we will be releasing a number of profile Music Anthems targeting issues of Domestic Animal Abuse throughout 2015 with the sole aim of education the Public and reducing the number of people who wear FUR to only leave the Bitches.
