Some people wonder why we help animals in need, personally I wonder why THEY wonder. There is nothing so rewarding, healing and meaningful as to mend a broken life, to restore happiness where fear have leached in to the bones of a sentient being due to heinous acts of cruelty, all in all this as much to do with Human Wrongs as it is to do with Animal Rights.

Be part of the change. Support the rescue and provide us with what we need to ensure a healthy, happy and long life.

Television the drug of a nation – what’s on the BOX with Michael Green

file 1

Television the drug of a nation – what’s on the BOX with Michael Green

Take a walk one day down Marine Parade, past Eastbourne Pier and the Chippy and look out to the waters edge, you may well see a Man working fervently on a painting.

It might not be a canvas that he’s painting, it might be an old PC, a car windscreen, a shop mannequin, a bit of drift wood, a crate, an old camera,a powder puff, or even a television set… Wherever he is painting he captures the angles and adjusts so that so looking straight on it still looks like (barring the content) a classic painting.

Perhaps you may stop , look down, you may start to read the back of his t-shirt and decide to go closer.

file 0

You may go down and look at what hes doing,  he may look up and then back to his work, you may ask a question, he may reply, you might not like the reply but you will still stand and watch and ask more questions. He may hand you a card or two, question you back or just tell you to fuck off.. you might be offended, you might be enlightened, either way, take the card go home and follow the lead he has given you….Its time to open your mind.

“The essence of capitalism is to turn nature into commodities and commodities into capital. The live green earth is transformed into dead gold bricks, with luxury items for the few and toxic slag heaps for the many. The glittering mansion overlooks a vast sprawl of shanty towns, wherein a desperate, demoralized humanity is kept in line with drugs, television, and armed force.” ― Michael Parenti, Against Empire

To use Televisions, and PC Monitors to raise awareness of the gross misconduct of monetised society is the nemesis of advertising, where no longer do we regard people as Sheep and TV the shepherd but rather to use the TV screen symbolically and convey a message of awakening and enlightenment.

Unlike any so called divine enlightenment, awareness of the nature of oppression provides no “Sinday” heavenly joy, at worst the hope is awareness will create resistance to the Corporate/State/Political/Financial machine, and at best a drive to support engage and be part of the change for a better future.

The Art, the images speak from themselves, take some time, read whats “ON THE BOX” . When Timothy Leary coined the phrase “Turn on, tune in, drop out” at the Human Be-In in 1966, seen ever since in the media as an all time counterculture-era statement about getting “high” and dropping out of society, he was actually referring to was  creating something of value something new, essentially “dropping in” to society.

The television, the corporations, the advertising media mogul that make money for there elitist empires and pyramid power companies have conditioned you through television, to drop out.

Television is the drug of the nation, and drugs make subversive people submissive. turn it off and get socially engaged in real change.

Its time to “drop in”…

NOW that’s what I call MUSIC – VEGSTOCK 2018 – An Interview with Queen V

2018 saw the return to centre stage of the “Chanson Engagé” with the launch of VEGSTOCK festival.

The brain child of singer / songwriter Queen V, the festival brought together Vegan music artists to carve out a place in the music industry to profile the vegan music scene.

VEGSTOCK 2018 festival rolled out at the Piano Works in Farringdon. The line-up consisted of 12 vegan acts in total, 11 bands and 1 DJ.

As in all things Vegan they stepped up the festival game, The “usual” festival go to of sticky heart attack droopy burgers and warm”piss in a pot” beer in cracked plastic pinters was replaced with a stunning selection of vegan food vendors (Vegan Sweet Tooth London, Shakey Shakey Vegan, Sheila’s Kitchen, Love Ice Cream and Jump To The Beet) and an endless all vegan drinks bar put on by the Piano Works, both alcoholic and non alcoholic.

Festival “usuals” of overpriced tacky band t-shirt stands were replaced with all ethical art / jewellery / clothing stalls. Vegstock as well as kick ass music, was the perfect place to experience and enjoy some of the best vegan bites there are to offer and the perfect place to pick up some seriously cool accessories and clothes.

So who was on the line up:

Bands:
– Rudy Warman & The Heavy Weather
– Queen V
– RIIVER
– Tokyo Taboo
– Platypus
– Juha
– spyplane
– Tally Spear
– Besureis
– The Fleas
– Amorie
– DJ Deccy

An Interview with Queen V – 10 questions:

01 – Whats your Vegan story ?
I was vegetarian since the age of 8. I adored animals from a very young age and it made no sense to me to kill and eat what I loved. It wasn’t until I moved to London in January 2016 that veganism really came in to my life – I’d of course heard about it before but honestly thought it was more of a hippy thing to do and hadn’t given it any extra though. I know. My ignorance is painful. But I started working with a few bands down here, some members of which were vegan. I’d also just started dating my now boyfriend and he showed me ‘Cowspiracy,’ (he wasn’t vegan then but he is now!) Between them I got the knowledge I’d been seriously lacking.

02 – Did ethics (veganism etc) drive you to get into song writing ?
I wrote my first song at the age of 12. Savage Garden and Hanson inspired, I do believe. Music is my love and after studying it at college, I became a full time musician. However, veganism finally gave me something real to talk about. Something actually important. It was so refreshing. To write a song and know it means so much more. There’s so much bullshit in the charts, and it’s a shame, because that music influences a lot of young people. It’s my goal to get my songs mainstream because they’re important and tackles bigger more pressing issues than just, er, love. Or the lack of love. Or the betrayal of love. Or whatever the hell they’re churning out currently.

03 – what were your motivations in pulling the Vegstock event together ?
It was a bit of a no-brainer really. Having set up my vegan channel last summer (2017) I’ve played a lot of little vegan festivals and what not. But there really aren’t THAT many places to play my vegan songs and I realised no one was putting on an all vegan music festival. So I thought I would!
04 – Do you think there is a market for “Vegan Music” to raise awareness regarding veganism ?
I think if they’re written well and they come across in the right way, yes. There is. People are being more mindful of their choices in today’s society. Granted, we have a long way to go and lot of damage to repair. But I feel that a great deal of people want to help make this a better world for everyone. That’s where vegan music comes in.

05 – Is your aim to stay specifically in a ethical social genre ?
Currently I’m mainly writing about and focusing on veganism, liberating farm animals from the hell we’ve created for them, trying to slow down and start to repair the damage we’ve done to the environment. But, it’s all interlinked. It’s all part of the bigger puzzle. Ultimately selfishness and greed is what is destroying us and pretty much everything falls under that.
06 – Did you feel supported by the vegan community in putting on the VegStock event ?
Yeah some people were super supportive. Livekindly did a write up for us which was insanely amazing. A few other vegan pages shared the event. London’s first ever all vegan supermarket GreenBay (which is SO AWESOME) wrote about us. Fat Gay Vegan gave us a mention or two. And a few more too – generally very very positive and helpful, which is what you’d like to expect in a vegan community…! A couple of vegan places in the area wouldn’t let me display a poster a few days before the event, and that was pretty disappointing.
07 In setting up Vegstock were you mindful of other vegan social events being seen as brands or branded, that have falling into criticism for failing to stick to the vegan ethic or putting out self promoting, profiteering and confusing messages ?
That was my first hurdle really. From doing a lot of ‘googling’ I couldn’t find many vegan bands. And I almost stopped as soon as I had started. Still I stuck with it, and found a few awesome artists either through playing shows with them or hearing about them through friends. I also looked at the roster for a few animal sanctuary festivals.. I figured it was likely those bands were vegan (although I pissed off the band leader of one such band who turned out not to be vegan. Apparently I was being discriminatory saying I only wanted vegan bands. For my vegan festival. Sure.) After advertising the event and it becoming so successful on facebook, it turns out there are a HELL of a lot of vegan artists and bands… it was just difficult to find them! But it’s great as I now have a possibles list for next time. Of course the food stalls were all vegan, as were the products used by my henna lady, hair braider and masseuse.
08 – Who were your favorite acts and have you any collaborations with other artists that have or may grow out of putting on this event?
I played with Rudy Warman and the Heavyweather in Kent so I already knew they were phenomenal. Riiver was great. Tokyo Taboo were insanely good too. No plans to collaborate yet but I’m sure something will be on the cards at some point.

Rudy Warman and the Heavyweather:

09 – Do you have sponsorship / crowd funding, if people wanted to for example get a sample album of the bands such as VegStock2018 is that a thing ?
I don’t have either… but that could be super cool!

10 – where to next columbus ? – what have you got in the pipeline ?
Yes big things are in store! Our plan is to do quarterly mini Vegstocks, and then have the one big festival once a year, hopefully outside. I’m currently still stuck on the name for these smaller events..! But once I have that we’ll be all set. The next event will be Sunday January 20th – you heard it here first! I would love to do the next big Vegstock outside, maybe even make a weekend of it. But there’s obviously a heck of a lot more planning that needs to go in to an event like that. Fingers crossed I can pull it off. In terms of the playlist for the upcoming smaller Vegstocks – I would love to hear anyone’s music if they’re a vegan performing artist – please send links to vegstockuk@gmail.com

The Retreat 6th Anniversary weekend – BORN FREE two litter of PIGLETS

The sixth anniversary weekend at the retreat was packed with people from all over the globe, activists and animal lovers who had travelled from Toronto from Belfast amongst other places to enjoy events, good company, great food and music and of course to spend time with the animals living at The Retreat.

The Retreat is unique,  as a fully vegan animal rescue the volunteers are clear on the value of their work and the whole operation is ethically excellent. with Over 1250 animals currently in their care, the volunteer network is essential to meeting all the animals demands.

The high point of the anniversary weekend was the birth of two litter of piglets, born free.

001 002 003 004 005

These piglets were born at The Retreat, the evening of Friday 28th Sept 2018, filmed on the 29th, at an anniversary weekend Open Day. Another set were born to another mum on the same evening.

Both gave birth in the night. NONE will be exploited by humans for any purpose, have a wonderful life all of you.

The families will have their own little paddock. The two mum’s are called Dianne and Autumn. They were straying in woods with the father ( of both litter swe presume) and a baby from her last litter Seven new born babies safe after being dumped in the wild to fend for themselves.

Philip McCulloch-Downs – Sagra del Seitan 2018 XI Edizione – BIG ART INTERNATIONAL

002

When we are talking BIG art, We are talking art  beamed onto a massive screen creating an immersive multimedia experience, exposing the 6,000+  attendees to the hidden victims of animal agriculture.
The BIG art show featured many Philip McCulloch-Downs’ incredibly detailed and moving pieces,  two of the many pieces that were in the show are pictured in the above –  ‘The forgotten’ and ‘Motherhood’.

The event was extremely visually engaging centered by the immersive multimedia event called “Made for the Animals 2.0”, with works by many vegan artists as well as Philip who  give voice to the animal debate.

The themes  of veganism and anti-speciesism were also supported by a rich cultural program packed with conferences and meetings.

When talking of the piece “the forgotten” Philip expressed “That one little life is now going to be alive and visible forever.  I’m so made up by this – it’s very moving.”

The Sagra del Seitan 2018 XI Edizione Vegan Festival ran in Florence, Italy Saturday September 22 and 23, at the OBI Hall in Florence.

In addition to the Sagra del Seitan, Philips schedule just gets busier and busier, He has been involved in the The Art of Compassion Project appearing in Beijing, Dublin,  Luxembourg and Florence!

Here is a look at The Art of Compassion Team at the International Animal Rights Conference in Luxembourg 6th – 9th September 2018.

For World Farmed Animal Day, Philip and Queen V seamlessly combined their creative work in the video for “What Hell Is like”. A day to feel proud to be associated with the activists of the world:

Those who speak up for the voiceless, against the vast, brutal farming corporations of the world.

Those who reveal hidden truths, to begin to change the majority opinion that meat and or dairy are essential to human life.

Those who do whatever they can to be compassionate – to all life, human and non-human.

“What hell is like” courtesy of Queen V

We look forward to the up and coming event the Liberation Arts Festival!. The hardest thing in Philip’s schedule is to keep up with his schedule.

Phillip is open for Commission work, or to find out more about his portfolio , projects and events please feel free to contact him directly through his facebook or merchandise link detailed below :

Artists Statement:

What does Animal Liberation mean to you? Educating the younger generation. Giving them the necessary facts and figures, as well as the encouragement, to help them realise that they can so easily change this world if they choose to, and thereby help us ALL evolve out of our current state of inertia and ignorance.
My personal part in the Animal Liberation Movement means connecting and empathising with the creatures that I paint, treating them with a dignity that they are denied by our farmers. I try to bear witness to their character, their suffering and their individuality, and by removing any barriers between ‘us’ and ‘them’ allow viewers to feel an empathy, which will hopefully lead to an understanding that changes hearts and minds.

NO MONEY NO HONEY – The “Supersize me” Bee project in every store near YOU

NO MONEY NO HONEY – The “Supersize me” Bee project in every store near YOU

“As a child there were wild hives in the forest, they were started mostly with drilled long bore holes in cut off blocks tied nailed to the trees, sometimes a hollowed branches bundle with indents around  half a foot long for the bees to lay larvae on,….. the wild hives the forest..those things, those days are gone…”

pollinating-bee-1494518889O0p

“After a while you would notice the start of hives around the boxes and bundles, over a year or two they would swell to full active vibrant communities, The honey overs used to drip from the bottoms, down the tree trunks
Kids would run their fingers up the trunks, wildlife would feed on the overs on the ground and low trunks, the fruit trees around the hives would start fruiting, there would be an abundance of wild flowers, colourful heads and long breezy stems. Later i realised that conservationists had seeded these. The bees would pollinate and be undisturbed, this was there gift, pollination……Nothing else was taken, ever..”

Since my last trip back to canada i can say i have never seen free forest undisturbed hives anywhere in the eu or us. All i see is the commercial operation and its the same everywhere. The absolute enslavement of an entire race !

Mainstream Media has rolled out a string of “investigations” into whats killing the bees, ROTTEN on netflix reported 37 million bee deaths a year in the continental USA . If that happened to cows or people there would be outcry.

The truth of honey and the death of the bees revolve around two essential areas

The Honey theft –  Does an Olympian train on McDonalds ? Does a RaceHorse run on Bacon and Eggs ? we all know that diet is 80% of  peak performance, every Bee in it’s natural habitat is an Olympian, thee are no couch potato bees or shift workers skipping off on tea breaks and shirking, they are Spartans they are tireless and their diet has been perfected of a millenia to deliver.

The pesticides and pollution – Healthy body / Healthy Mind ? the synthetic sugar addled unfit struggling worker bee just can’t operate efficiently or in increasing numbers even find the way home in a fog of pesticides and pollution. the biggest consumer crop of pesticides is grain and protein crop for animal feeds,. to cut to the chase , if you are eating meat as well as Honey, you are double daming the Bees with your eating preferences.

The situation we have since 1972 (the start of the destruction of the Honey Bee with the global roll out of Glucose Fructose Corn Syrup) is likable to a  a big brother type sitcom (the hive) where our fitness guru’s are watched and followed going shopping each day with their hard earned cash and opening their fridge in the morning and finding it all stolen ,empty or stacked full of junk food , look around , some furniture is out of place, one or two house members are concussed (smoked, neuro nano toxins) not sure if they will pull through, a window us smashed (removal damage)

What is nasty, insidious and speciest is the act of theft of honey. Honey has been stolen for over 4000 year by humans, obsessed with consuming its purported health busting properties. Yet in the last 300 years, the hive industry has become the norm and taking the overs has become wide scale removing of 2/3 of the honey hive to fund profit.

The survival of one one the oldest most fascinating species on earth starts to diminish as their health is affected by a sustained replacement diet of synthetic sugar water as Honey is stolen for Human consumption.

inside-the-bee-hive

“We steal its daylight robbery for sure, does it hurt them, not immediately but by the time winters through you see them dead in the thousands. But that’s the business we are in”

ROTTEN on NETFLIX https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/80146284

honey-bee

bees pollinate crops for everyone but taking their honey and replacing it with synthetic sugar syrups weakens the immune system and they get wiped out by pesticides.

The bees also don’t wax off the honeycombs if sugar syrups because they don’t like it, the honey is their balanced nutritional diet they work hard to make it, humans steal it with a wide range of lies about profits and bee rent and replace it with junk food. Ever see “SUPERSIZEME” how sick the guy gets ?

As for the so called eco bee hives, they also take the wax for beeswax and use it in lip balms. Open a factory hive and you find 1/3 of commercial hives have sick bees. Honey is only one side of the problem, poor health also means a poor immune system and that is the deal closer for the Honey Bee in our modern pesticide filled world.

without a strong die and the additional work of have to replace stolen supplies the ever enslaved and overworked Bee also has to fight off toxins pollution and pesticides. It is blatantly obvious and common knowledge that a healthy body can resist infection fatigue and disease better than an unhealthy one. Humanity though the Honey Theft has already damaged the Bees health, next humans lay the gauntlet of poisoned air for the bee to struggle through.

So called eco bee keeping companies report to “save the bees” by planting an additional 5,000 flowers a hive and advertising this is ethical, let’s do the maths though, 5000 flowers well that’s enough pollen for 100 bees who each produce 1/6 of a teaspoon.. how much honey do you spread on your bread ? how many lifetimes work stolen ?.

The reality is that 50’000 flowers should be planted per hive minimum.  Even when the flowers are planted, the Honey those bees make is eco or commercial, stolen.

In short the ECO trend sold under so called Health outfits like Holland and Barrett (such as the Manuka Honey gold mine)  say they are ethical for the bees, but we already know from the numbers and the theft of the end product that it doesn’t ring true, no amount of Media Marketing can normalise theft and slavery in the Honey trade.

Open debate between Bee Keepers and Honey producers and the Vegan community become heated , Bee Keepers wave off criticism stating people are not educated enough to know whats really going on. This post clarifies the “education” and exposes the lies.  The truth is that they are profiteering off bees and the bees will suffer and die as a result of Human intervention, not be saved by it.

There’s lots of ways to save bees, wild hives and the planting of bee food flowers are the good steps, the elephant in the room and the frankly obvious is to stop consuming their honey.

Vegan activists have turned round hives that are dying from sugar syrup replacement by actually buying jars if honey and literally putting it back into hives.

Those who set up wild hives on their land and allow the natural development of Honey Bees unmolested will see their flowers and fruits do better year in year.

Is there any instance where consuming Honey can be seen as Ethical ?

It will never be Vegan as its an animal Product, Ethical possibly only in one instance  – The only collection of honey that could ever be called ethical is on over spill where the honey drips out of a wild hive to the ground, though what people take from this means less for wildlife and this again needs to be put into perspective, globalised society offers Humans more access to sugar replacements and alternatives that any other species. A human an simply go to aisle 22 instead of aisle 23 and buy ” agave nectar” instead of Honey at the same bottle price. A racoon looking for something sweet on the forest floor cannot…

Where do I get a HONEY alternative that rocks ? : https://www.groovyfood.co.uk/products/light-amber-mild-agave-nectar

The standard theft rate from a commercial hive when all the rows are full, bee producers say a minimum of 3 rows a hive to last winter  should keep the hive alive yet i this was the case then we would not see death totals in the 40 millions every year and widespread colony collapse.

The minimum for a commercial hive is 5 rows. The honey producers take 60 percent , they leave 3 rows and replace the stolen rows of Honey with synthetic sugars. As previously put – Its theft , dailybreakin’s, ransacking and theft.

No Vegan will support the use of Honey, will not consume it or stock it. We have not seen one ethical Honey operation globally ever. Wild hives we see, but only where people are land conservationists or have “forgotten 2 about them, we would like to encourage people to set up wild hives. I foyu want to get started on wild hive program in box us and we will send you a how to guide to getting started,

If you really want honey for nothing and have inherited an active former commercial  hive  then do it ONLY with an overspill tray under the hive.

Don’t take the rows, it stresses then and makes them work harder

Don’t smoke them it stresses then and damages them (honey producers say it doesn’t so try it on yourself and see how that goes)

Don’t replace their highly nutritious immune system boosting diet for junk food just because “you can”

Don’t be a thief. Bees own us nothing. Mother Nature doesn’t charge “Bee Rent” The bees are sacred and those who argue for “Bee Rent” support the honey industry, support the defilement of mother natures divine for your own profit and oral masturbation

pollination of our crops is being effected by the honey stealing and promoting community And when that species dies we all die.

No Vegan ever makes “Money” from getting you to stop eating Honey, Every Honey producer makes money from you when YOU ignore the truth , YOUR responsibility for our collective future and believe the marketing speech.

Its a heath thing ? You want to be healthy ?

Get on a Raw Vegan Diet and buy the book HOW NOT TO DIE , it’s really that simple.

Philip Downs in Print – Mother Nature’s Fantasy Masterpiece light in a dark place – The Curious Tale of Otto and Trinity Small

Philip Downs, an accomplished artist with 19 books under his belt explores elements of living in harmony with nature, the oppressive and negative effects of organised religion, and of the long-lasting effects of kind hearts and innocence in a dark and troubled world.

In a world of ever accelerating consumerism and unchecked forced and unethical brand marketing dark times lie ahead of us, in making the right choices for the planet, for our communities and the land we  share with the animals and walk on. There will be a time when we must choose between what is convenient, perhaps easy and what is truly the right thing to do.

When we, in our daily lives are exposed to the harsh realities of profiteering destruction and violence it seems like a fantasy, an unbelievable world where Mother Nature has been chained and the madness of greed and self .deification of the wealthy elite reigns supreme. It is at these times that fantasy becomes the ultimate medium to build good ethical magical core beliefs and behaviours and it is in these stories where true happiness can be found, even in the very darkest of times, if one we, each one of us remembers to turn on the light for others to see by.

Phillp Downs, painstakingly detailed and stunning masterpiece “The Curious Tale of Otto and tarinity Small is one such work as this.

A heavily illustrated (by the author) story of mad gods, kind hearts, and of two children who embark on a journey around the world that takes them six hundred years to complete. Along the way they encounter tales of demons trapped by salt, magical horticulturists, impossibly burning men, sun gods and hearth sprites and the history of the world being changed by a single firefly.

Lush graphics such as “The Six Hundred year journey” that accompany the book are also being rolled out in special art Prints in addition to the book.

WINTER IS HERE at the RETREAT – Feed them all – Fundraising NOW ! Reg Charity 1105654

In looking to be part of building a more enlightened world where humans remember their dignity and show compassion and love to all others, regardless of sex, race, age, gender, disability or species; the Retreat finds the continued exploitation, abuse, bullying, violence against and murder of animals in today’s society totally degrading and unacceptable and work tirelessly to help the voiceless make it past the last chance.

There are over 1250 animals at the retreat, the founders and volunteers rescue these animals from abuse, neglect and privation and provide them with a forever home. A fully Vegan sanctuary, this is the last stop in their life line for without rescue centres, there is no tomorrow for these animals.

Winter is on them and at 700 pounds a week to cover feed let alone general supplies, the Retreat needs to widen its net of support. With that in mind FISHINABOX have joined the fight to “FEED THEM ALL”. We need you to do the same.
