The Album follows the journey of refugees out of war torn Syria into the border region camps and finally passing into Iran before resettlement as part of the refugee relief program. Based on and around real story’s and events the Album aims to raise awareness largely ignored and taboo subject of the plight of Refugees. While all Media focuses on the Political Religious Sectarian disputes in the conflict Message in the Sand focuses on the flight, traffic and journey of the victims of war, the people. both in the War Zone through to the Camps, and finally to the current Journey’s end, (re-housed overseas)

The story of the victims of War is a constant global issue. The album could have been focused on any number of conflicts, Chechnya or Yugoslavia, or Rwanda and many many other places. It has happened in history time and time again,. Syria is currently the battleground of warlords and power seekers and there story commands the Media. It is for this reason that the Story centers on Syria’s refugees, the silenced ones, the discarded, the ignored.

This Album is not an attempt to judge, take sides, claim right and wrong, be Political in anyway.

The unfortunate truth for the Refugee is that often there is as much danger in fleeing a war as in being a victim of the conflict on the field. Music is the universal language that all people speak and it is this hope that the message in the sand will be carried forward to all.

Li Webster returns to centre stage on the release of the New FISHINABOX Album Message in Sand: https://www.facebook.com/FishinaboxRecords

After a seemingly endless voice on voice over , part over part, to complete layer by layer the full choral effect for the backing track through the album, Li showed her versatility in creating the perfect shadow and mood for the delivery for the Poem of Mourning ,”Flower in the Desert” . A sorrowful , horrific but stark text on a tragic tale of suicide.

Thoughts on “Flower in the Desert ?”:
…Whatever the subject matter, no matter now difficult to work with morally , we have an obligation to add depth and meaning to our work , and even if possible seed even a grain of beauty within, even if melancholy, so that light can be found in even the darkest of places..”

She has already proved invaluable in stepping into the Role as the Angry feminist on SOLD the Album. Laying down a perfect balance of disdain and anger that paces the tension perfectly without losing the comedy in the storyboard.

Li Webster was drawn to the microphone following her strong leaning to jazz ballads, and as a well versed sultry siren, a smoke kissed bar vixen of the open mic scene on the London’ s Jazz circuit, Li brings an ethereal but centre strong voice to the FISHINABOX project.

FLOWER IN THE DESERT

(melancholy and the infinite sadness)

(They took them, 2, no I think 3 girls. When they brought them back they were depressed. They talked about suicide. It happens all the time. We are in danger. Some girls are made to work as prostitutes. We are in Danger.)

Lyrics Translation from Syrian Dialect to Contemporary Arabic

Survivors are very reluctant to report rape due to extreme and restrictive cultural values and stigma. Survivors are very unlikely to seek support due to the risk of being killed by their families, shame and fear of facing a continued cycle of physical and sexual violence including honor killing, survival sex, increased risk of early and coerced marriage, domestic violence and risk of suicide are all issues of concern. Fundamentally Women do not have safe access to reliable services and support.

(Unable to bear the humiliation and social stigma attached to rape, 3 refugee girls who had transferred from camps in neighboring countries to safe facilities in Iran were found hanged south of the housing blocks the morning after arrival. An open verdict of suicide in all three cases has been recorded.)

Rape is becoming increasing widespread throughout the Syria fallout conflict zone. One new study reports that rape has become so prevalent that it is a factor in driving thousands of Syrian families into exile.

(We are in danger, it happens all the time)

(They talked about committing suicide)

(We are in danger, it happens all the time)

A Flower in the Desert,
Hanging from the Tree
Blood Red ,. Shifts still uncomfortably

A Flower in Desert,
Plucked from Life,
Twitching still on failing sunset breeze

A Flower in the Desert
Body Broken, Stripped in rage
Neck wrenched painted red in unnatural Shame

A Flower in the Desert
Eyes plucked clean,
Worn on Crow’s Claws , ornaments and rings

A Flower in the Desert
Condemning still
Unlawfully desecrated, Bartered for a meal

A Flower in the Desert
Vain curses voiced
violation, rape betrayal of youthful joy

A Flower in the Desert
Bodily forget,
Seek Peace in Death
Feeding the dust in tainted regret

A Flower in the Desert
Guilt for silver changing hands
Death cheats the deal the never has

A Flower in the Desert
Mournful Release
Violent Violate bodily disbelief

Heed not the breathless whispers
Nor voices do the dead dispose
Heinous acts against innocents
Crimes never to be disclosed

Frenzied, Hateful unfathomable desires
Claim and Consume the fruit of youth
Nothing left but the rotting knot
Upon the asphyxiating rope of truth

These are the victims of war
Forever lost, the brightest lights
These are the Victims of war
Mankind chose a Dominion of Violence

War Chatter

War is not the solution, solution, solution, solution,

There was a gas attack, a Chemical Attack in Syria, and a lot of people were, injured, and, and, and hurt,

and, and, hurt.

and, and, hurt.

and, and, hurt.

and, and, hurt.

So the UN had a team to investigate who did this Gas attack, this Chemical attack. The first time the team were shot, shot shot shot, shot. So we had to wait then they sent another team to investigate the situation.

The tension is already so so high.

The tension is already so so high.

It’s a very dangerous situation that we are in. What do people want ? What do people of all Countries want ? Security. They want their survival taken care of. That’s what we want. We don’t want to fight each other.

This is all about Governments against Governments.

Most people could very easily live together when they have everything taken care of. About when we have a house when we have enough food, when we have enough water, when we have a stable income.

It’s always the same shit.

It’s always the same shit. The Solution is not in Bombs, in missiles, the solution is to create a permanent world where everyone can live a good life, and only when we do that and stop this exploitative economy that makes poverty, and , and what do you call it, friction worldwide.

We’re not going to end any wars or any friction if we have these power games, if we have these money games, if we have this system of inequality that creates poverty, and creates people to see each other as threats, and, creates propaganda , false ideas, and about people, about groups of people and push people up against each other.

It’s always the same shit.

It’s always the same shit.

It’s always the same shit.

It’s always the same shit.

that creates propaganda , false ideas, and about people, about groups of people and push people up against each other, or believing that we have to be a certain way just to be good , but war is not the solution , not the solution, not, not , the solution.

War is not the solution , not the solution, not, not , the solution.

War is not the solution , not the solution, not, not , the solution.

not, not. the solution not. not the solution, not. not. the solution……

Refugee Press Story:

The deputy secretary of the foreign ministry published his manifesto announcing that the borders of the Glorious Islamic Republic of Iran will open to receive ten thousand Syrian refugees currently lodged in a number of neighboring countries refugee camps. Housing will be provided until a relocation agreement can be brokered with other nations.

The United Nations have warned that if a solution to the Refugee crisis is not found, we could be looking at excess of 100,000 transitory people.

(Men come to the camps, they come from many places, Saudi Arabia, Qatar Jordan. They follow our Daughters home and ask us to sell our daughters for marriage to them. Some families make girls accept Marriage proposals. The money helps to pay for rent, for food. Girls accept marriage proposals from strangers. They have suffered greatly and they look to marriage or protection, shelter, money clothing. The things they have lost through the war. For Young Girls, some as young as ten years old, It is very dangerous. Girls have been kidnapped.

A Flower in the Desert,
Hanging from the Tree
Blood Red ,. Shifts still uncomfortably

A Flower in Desert,
Plucked from Life,
Twitching still on failing sunset breeze

A Flower in the Desert
Body Broken, Stripped in rage
Neck wrenched painted red in unnatural Shame

A Flower in the Desert
Eyes plucked clean,
Worn on Crow’s Claws , ornaments and rings

A Flower in the Desert
Condemning still
Unlawfully desecrated, Bartered for a meal

A Flower in the Desert
Vain curses voiced
violation, rape betrayal of youthful joy

A Flower in the Desert
Bodily forget,
Seek Peace in Death
Feeding the dust in tainted regret

A Flower in the Desert
Guilt for silver changing hands
Death cheats the deal the never has

A Flower in the Desert
Mournful Release
Violent Violate bodily disbelief

Heed not the breathless whispers
Nor voices do the dead dispose
Heinous acts against innocents
Crimes never to be disclosed

Frenzied, Hateful unfathomable desires
Claim and Consume the fruit of youth
Nothing left but the rotting knot
Upon the asphyxiating rope of truth

These are the victims of war
Forever lost, the brightest lights
These are the Victims of war
Mankind chose a Dominion of Violence

(President Rouhani was reported to have confirmed that due to the difficult living conditions of the Syrian People, the Iranian Government will continue distribution of humanitarian aid to Syria, though remains steadfast in condemnation of hostile acts in the region , specially related to Syria.)

Iran has staunchly backed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad with Military and Financial aid since an anti-regime uprising first began in March 2011 and regards the Syrian opposition groups as terrorists being backed by Western and Arab countries and as a result the main driver behind the refugee crisis is Syria.

Iran has stepped up support on the ground for President Bashar al-Assad, providing elite teams to gather intelligence and train troops, US reporting sources advised today. This further backing from Tehran, along with deliveries of munitions and equipment form Moscow is helping to keep Assad in power at a time when neither his own forces nor opposition fighters have a decisive edge on the battlefield.

While the presence of Iranian Military personnel in Syria is not new, US military experts believe Tehran has in recent months sent in more specialists to enable Assad to outlast his enemies at home and abroad.

A former senior Iranian official with close IRGC links said Iranian forces were active in the area. These include senior commanders from the elite Qud’s force, the external and secretive arm of the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as well as IRGC members.

The evidence indicated hundreds of Iranian advisers and trainers were in side Syrian at any one time. These figures could not be verified from Syria but the deaths of at least two IRGC commanders in Syria have been reported publicly.

(They arrived in France 3 months ago. For most of them war and violence have destroyed their homes and lives and forced them to flee there homeland. For 126 families, since leaving home they have had to cross Jordan, Iraq and into Iran and finally thanks to an overseas rehousing program, they have arrived in Paris.)

(Everyday they gather in the Saint Ouen Park where we find them suffering from starvation, dishevelment, neglect, illness among theer number there are young children and pregnant women. month on month the numbers just keep increasing.)

(Most of the Refugees are seeking asylum status, but housing remains an issue. Some families have been put up in a small hotel on the outskirts of the park but solutions for all are hard to come by. Charity’s run vigil to try and ensure no one gets left sleeping rough and support for action grows. Charities are calling on the State to become involved and provided a solution to the housing crisis.)

Nottinghill Carnival – PARACARNIVAL on parade with the Winning Crew

Torrential Rains  and cutting ice cold winds hit Nottinghill Carnival this year. Despite the unrelenting British Weather trying putting a dampener on our tropical troops. FISHINABOX “rolled up our sleeves” and got busy on the street parade with Paracarnival (supported by the Paraiso School of Samba and Nottinghill Carnival Parade Winner) to brave the storms and help bring CARNIVAL THERAPY to the streets and the masses.

What is Paracarnival ?

Paracarnival is a fast growing and exceptionally diverse community of artists, performers and enablers, whose highly inclusive program of Arts of Carnival workshops and legendary carnival performances, engages and unites people of all backgrounds, ages, abilities and vulnerabilities.

Paracarnival have enjoyed a steady increase in membership and in the volume and quality of street art and carnival productions – achieving levels of inclusion and integration unprecedented in the history of Notting Hill Carnival. Each year doubling the length and outreach of the Carnival Therapy program which generally runs the full six month CARNIVAL Season –  June through to the New Year’s Day parade.
